Hydra Movement: Strength is just the beginning!
Yuri Marmerstein is a performer and hand balance and movement teacher based out of Las Vegas.
He will be holding a 2 day workshop on Handbalancing at CrossFit 3039.
During the event, participants will be exposed to concepts such as:
- Handbalancing - developing handstands from the ground up, covering tools for proper alignment, breathing patterns, support capacity, wrist conditioning and more. Also supporting intermediate and advanced practitioners on their journey towards dynamic sets and one arm handstands.
- Gymnastics and Bodyweight Strength such as handstand push ups, rope climbs, planche development - learn the most well thought out approach in the market, tailored to your level. Get your first handstand, one arm handstand, legless rope climb and more - with some of the knowledge shared, your journey will be quicker than ever.
Fundamentals of hand balance.
This includes both general and specific preparation work as well as skill work to learn, improve, and refine your ability to hold a handstand.
No stone is left unturned. Yuri will cover the full process of learning to perform a clean freestanding handstand and beyond. This is done in several stages: alignment, support, inversion, and balance. Also covered will be joint preparation, learning how to fall safely, and learning how to overcome both physical and psychological limitations in regards to the handstand.
This is perfect for both beginner and advanced practitioners. Beginners will learn what to do right and wrong to not build bad habits. Advanced practitioners will learn how to make subtle refinements to increase their efficiency and mastery of their handstands as well as their ability to teach it.
Day two is a bit more flexible as far as what will be taught. It will cover the following but also be based on the needs of the participants. Yuri will go over advanced hand balancing skills. This will include movements like Mexican handstand, planche, handstand pushups and press handstands, and one arm balances such as air baby, crocodile, and the one arm handstand (skill and time permitting).
To balance out the large amount of heavy pressing, Yuri will cover hanging and pulling progressions from the perspective of both a circus artist and a strength athlete. This will end in rope climb with variations on how to efficiently climb using the legs as well as techniques towards an arms only rope climb.
The last subject will be an intro to floor acrobatics. This section will talk about how to approach it as an adult, learning both physical and mental preparation to the training. We will talk about the basic movements and how to constantly refine them.
All subjects will include techniques on how to warm up and properly "tune" your body to the skills.

* Make sure to clear your schedule in this weekend and not book any flights back, important dinners or other obligations as on both days the event might run later than expected - Yuri will be teaching for 6-7hrs daily and attempts to share as much knowledge as possible with the participants during the event.
We recommend packing your own food for lunch as at certain locations getting food might be a problem.
Please make sure to bring with you: a roll of athletic tape, water bottle, watch/timer/stopper watch, notebook&pen and loose fitting clothes suitable for movement.
