We live in a world where our ability to move has been taken away from us and we are being made incapable of moving in our most primal patterns. We suffer from aches and pains when do a little more than get the TV remote from the coffee table. We cannot squat hang or just stand comfortably. Hi, I'm Anurag Gill. I am the Head Coach at CrossFit - 3039
I am a mover. I teach movement for a living. I have been involved in sport and fitness since the age of 11 and have learned about movement the hard way. I have made a lot of mistakes and learned from them. I have interned with Ido Portal and currently train with him. I was an avid Crossfitter for the last 5 years and now spend a fair bit of time teaching them about the complexities of movement and fine tuning them. I love Crossfit, because of its lack of specificity. CrossFit at its purest form is everything we can want from a training program - constantly varied high intensity workouts. Love it. My mentor and Coach, Ido Portal famously coined, "Movement today is too much about SPECIFICITY - either Dance or the Martial or Fitness but none were actually interested in the bigger picture of movement. They (specific disciplines) also lacked some basic tools that were not available within their own disciplines to deal with Movement in the highest level." That is our basis of teaching at CrossFit - 3039. We teach:
So where does HYDRA fit in? I started HYDRA Fitness Academy in January, 2014 to teach people how to move well, no matter what their past and then in February, 2014 we affiliated with CrossFit HQ to start CrossFit - 3039 in Moonee Ponds to service Moonee Valley and its surrounding suburbs. HYDRA, in greek mythology, is a serpent like creature that dwells in the lake of Lerna, near Argos, and has numerous heads. Each time one is cut off, two grow back. So being harmed is what it likes Hydra represents Antifragility - Nassim Nicholas Taleb The word Antifragile is a peculiar but very true term to how we must live life. It is a state which not only opposes fragility but also overcompensates by growing stronger from any physical or mental stressor that could affect it. At HYDRA Fitness Academy (the home of CF3039), we strive for antifragility of the human body by pushing it to movements that it forgot, thought impossible and felt too weak/fragile to commit to. Although this is done in a scaleable, case by case manner, the result of antifragility remains the same. Move, however you can, because if you don't, tomorrow you might not be able to! |
