Hydra Movement: Strength is just the beginning!
Do you suffer from shoulder issues? Do you struggle with overhead movements? Is your progress restricted by pain and lack of mobility? There is no doubt that the CrossFit training method is hard on the shoulders. Without correct mechanics an athlete risks injury. As a CrossFit Coach i know this, as do you. However, it can be very difficult to manage shoulder issues in a class environment. You get a budding athlete that is a bit over-enthusiastic about his/her training and virtuosity goes out the window and in come all the pains and aches associated with bad mechanics, over use and compensation. This is a common occurrence for most athletes at some point in their career. Couple that with 'baggage' (previous injuries, issues) that we carry before we start training, we compound the tightness, pains and aches to an extent that the only way we can continue to move is through the use of some weird looking god forsaken myo-fascial release implement, that hurts like a b&^%h but feels great! I mean thats what we tell ourselves, right? Now I'm not saying that these implements of torture are not needed. We definitely need them and they have their place in helping correct some of our wrongdoings and imbalances. But what about the main cause - poor activation and integration of poorly activated muscles in an unbalanced movement, coupled with the fact that you do it 100,000,000,000 times. Ok so maybe I exaggerated a bit but you get the message right? 'If you leave a trail of poop behind, you are bound to step in it one day' - Ido Portal So can we move better? Yes we can. Can I show you how to move your shoulders into a better position and activate them so you can get better mobility? Yes Can I help you PB your snatch....ummm maybe! Learn to move better and the world will be your oyster. Am I Kelly Starrett? No, Far from it! (I'm better looking :P) So who am I? My name is Anurag Gill, I am the owner of CrossFit 3039. Over the past few years I have been working with CrossFit athletes of all levels to help them move better, avoid injury and get the most out of their training. I have trained with Ido Portal under his method and used his method coupled with other movement techniques I have developed while learning from Gymnastics, Olympic lifting and Hand Balancing. I have used this method of mobility to create movement in athletes who have needed rehab to athletes who suffer from niggles and just basic wear and tear. And the response to the program has been amazing. In December, I will be hosting our second workshop designed to help CrossFitters improve their shoulder health. I will deal with issues relating to: 1. Shoulder Pain during training/ Wodding 2. Shoulder Mobility Issues - while overhead squatting/ hand standing/ kipping 3. Elbow problems 4. Wrist problems Have a look at what athletes who attended our previous workshops achieved - And this is what they had to say:Sore in a good way! And pleased as punch at my progress - Jen Shoulder Mobility Workshop
